Call Of Duty 5: World At War is the latest Call Of Duty made by Activison, after Call Of Duty 3, many of the long time Call Of Duty fans were extremely skeptical about the new direction the game was going in, Call Of Duty 3 disappointed a number of players, although about a year later, when Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released, it blew everyone away from the brilliant game play, story line and graphics!
To start off with, World At War brings a real-life element to World War II, in many other World War II based-games, there was little gore and you just didn’t have that real-life feeling to the game, with World At War, you see body parts fly off, men screaming with pain trying to grab their lost legs and arms, World At War shows the horror of World War 2 like no-other game has before.
The only problem which I had with the single-player campaign was the enemies, they act in a way you wouldn’t expect a World War II fighter to respond, you get showered-with gardens, it can feel as if you are playing a young-child and they don’t have any skill but to throw millions of gardens at you and hope you die, thankfully you only get this kind of attack at certain parts of the game, where its meant to challenger, but I think they went a bit over board trying to make it hard. Although you do have some realistic levels as well, in which you have to assault a Japanese castle for example, once again giving a real-life feeling of World War Two.
The great graphics and gore hasn’t been enough to get all of the regular multiplayer gamers from Call Of Duty 4 to move onto Call Of Duty 5, I can understand why, I believe that the game developers have tried to keep the same kind of multiplayer interface/game play because of the success of the Call Of Duty 4 multiplayer, although with different reasons.
Player verses player multiplayer may be lacking and I cannot see it being as a success as Call Of Duty 4’s multiplayer, but you can also play co-operative multiplayer, you are able to compete with friends to see who can get the most skills, or even go though the campaign with a friend.
World Of War may not be the best Call Of Duty, although it’s no where near the worst, the single-player game play was a step forward for Call Of Duty, although with the multiplayer lacking, it could of done with a boost forward from Call Of Duty 4. The game brings the true ugliness of humanity in wartime to the screen and it tells you a lot about World War II and gives you a brilliant insight to the war.
In conclusion, if your looking for online-multiplayer modes, I’d say that Call Of Duty 4 is better, although if you are looking for a graphical war-game / world war 2 game, then Call Of Duty 5 is exactly that.
