From the popular series, comes a new game, Halo Wars, created by Microsoft Game Studios and is set to be released 2nd February 2009 on xBox 360, the game takes a change from the classic Halo game play, Halo Wars is a real-time strategy game.
I believe this game is a totally different genre of game compared to the previous Halo games, instead of a first-person shooter, it’s now a third-person strategy / role play game, although I believe that Halo-fans will also enjoy this game.
Halo Wars starts 20 years before the start of the events which you see in Halo: Combat Evolved. When you start the game you are immediately introduced to some of the important characters during the game.
It’s extremely clear that the story line plays a very important part in Halo Wars. You view cut scenes before and after missions, you always will have a progress bar, which informs you on your progress throughout the game.
In the first mission, it’s your job to help the Alpha base, it’s being overrun by enemies forces, it takes you right into battle action as you defend the base, where you have to face a number of different enemies, some more powerful then others.
Once you have finished the first mission, you are sent to a cut scene, which explains a lot about the storyline of the game and what’s going on, what’s happening etc. A great interface feature is you can hover the cursor over things and you are given a description of it.
Aside from the missions, you also have the ability to secondary objectives, which are tasks such as killing 30 jackals, this will give you some bonus points, which is always good to have, you will need to complete the secondary objectives before you complete the main mission in order to receive the bonus points.
Controlling your troops is very straightforward, you have face buttons used to select / issue commands, cancel orders etc. Each unit has a secondary attack mode, which can be used multiple times, although you have to wait for it to recharge. You able to ram enemies with vehicles, certain units are able to throw grenades, there are also a number of different vehicles, some fast which can used to ram/run over your enemies others have cannons and other weapons built onto them.
Halo Wars is still being developed by Microsoft Game Studios, so this is just a short introduction, they still need to some touch ups to the cut scenes and for we all know, there may a number of different features which we haven’t been able to tell you about.
