When looking for an iPhone or iPod Touch game, I want an experience that lasts only ten minutes at a time. This is the nature of the platform because it is always in your pocket and you are on the go. I know, for me, when I am in line somewhere, waiting for anything, I pull out my iPod Touch and play some Dr. Awesome. Ngmoco, publisher of Dr. Awesome, is a developer/publisher of iTunes Apps and have created some of the most fun experiences for the system.
Dr. Awesome uses some very nice, classic, RPG style graphics engine upon a “area clearing game” to “destroy the infection.” Think Jezz Ball, crossed with Trauma Center. The big hook for the game is the use of your contacts as patients. As you gain points, you move up the latter in your imaginary hospital It seems to give your “patients” more of a real persona that makes the player feel for each. I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel for each admitted patient. Also, the game gives you twenty four hours to cure them of the infection.
The overall gameplay is fun and sometime “Geometry Wars 2″ frustrating. And this is definitely the wrong time for my white hot rage to come out while standing in line at the bank. The other selling point of this game is the price, which is the insane low cost of a whole dollar. If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch, download this game now. I mean this in all seriousness.
