Clearly everbody is now feeling the hardships of the economy. When Electronic Arts announced that they would be laying off about ten percent of their employees, the last thing on people’s minds was that the studio that brought the best selling Madden series would be untouched. However, Tribune studios is having a number of its approximately 700 employees laid off. Tribune is the studio responsible for both the Madden and NCAA games.
The company, which is located in Orlando Florida, gave EA some of the best selling games of all time. Last year, Madden 2009 sold 2.3 million in its first month. However, that still didn’t stop the company from staffing cuts. Craig Hagen, the person in charge of government affairs for Electronic Arts in North America, did speak to the Orlando Sentinel regarding the layoffs.
“The economy is affecting every industry including ours and we need to tighten our belts and reduce our operating costs,” said Hagen, adding, “Tiburon remains one of the flagship studios for EA Sports and will continue to be the home base for the leading sports franchises like Madden and Tiger and NCAA Football.”
