Activision, publisher of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, has released sales information for one of their flagship franchises. Guitar Hero III, the last of the guitar only releases, has passed the one billion dollar mark in sales. This information was given in a Consumer Electronic Show, CES, keynote speech given by the publishing CEO Mike Griffith. According to him, this is the first game to ever pass this monumental milestone and really proves the games success with both the hardcore and casual markets. This is even more surprising as the rhythm game market becomes more saturated with each release from Activision and Harmonix, makers of Rock Band. Other statistics released in the keynote include 21 million units of DLC have been downloaded into Guitar Hero games and almost 150,000 user generated songs have been uploaded. These statistics help show the success of the Guitar Hero franchise and also how smart the purchase of Red Octane was to Activision and its investors. No information was given on the sales of their newest entry in the Guitar Hero franchise, World Tour, but stay tuned for the totals when they are released via the NPDs.
