Gamasutra revealed today that a very interesting, non-bear-with-Wii-remote containing patent filed by Nintendo has been made public. The patent contains a description of a possibility to have in-game video walkthrough that users can access when they get stuck, hopefully allowing the player to actually finish a game they would normally quit playing at frustratingly difficult moments. Users would also get to start a game from pre-determined save points, allowing them to fast-forward a bit through the game, but losing the ability to save after starting from that file. It also appears that this saved data and/or video hints could be either stored on the disc or available via the web.
This seems like a very good idea for Nintendo, considering they’re the reason casual gaming has blown up recently, this could only help those soccer moms and grandmothers get through all those hardcore games they’re buying up.
