With Skate 2 due out to stores on the 21st, it seems just about the right time to make sure that everyone knows exactly what to expect. The game begins with your character fresh out of jail coming back to a much different San Vanelona. You quickly learn that the once prominent skating city has been altered by a mysterious disaster and that a company by the name of Mongo Corp has begun a crackdown on skating. These two things help Skate 2 to maintain a sense of a true sequel, while keeping the game fresh and unique in its own way. One of the great additions is the ability to hop off your board and run around freely. This also opened up the opportunity to add in another feature, you can now grab onto objects such as ramps and rails and move them to wherever you would like. You obviously can’t move anything that you want to, but most objects can be moved to create you own personalized line.

In addition to those features, Black Box has added three completely new areas to New San Vanelona. A State Park-esque mountain area, a high-rise projects neighborhood, and a waterfront area. Each of them will have their own individual features and of course they all look great as well. They didn’t stop there either, they revamped the wipe out animations making everything look more realistic and less like a crash test dummy flopping around.

All-in-All, it appears the Skate franchise will again be putting out a quality game that should sell a lot of copies. The game will be much easier for those who played the original due to a slightly harder than normal learning curve. In time though even those who may not have played the original will be shredding up San Vanelona like a veteran. Have fun with this one, from what Ive seen you should be pleased. I will put out a full review of the game after its release.
