The masterminds behind the juggernaut mmo World of Warcraft have announced that they will not be appearing at E3 this year. Although there is no known reason why yet, it is believed that Blizzard is trying to act more autonomously due to their success. Activision, Blizzard’s merger partner, has confirmed their participation in the events. Activision was not present at E3 2008 after the amount of downsizing that took place at the event.
Blizzard’s own convention, BlizzCon, has had much popularity and is most likely why Blizzard isn’t showing up to the event. Big name games such as Starcraft II and Diablo III will be key games missing from E3, and no doubt more info will be released during Blizzcon. Plus, due to the popularity of World of Warcraft, when Blizzard announces a new game, people listen.
A rep for Blizzard released a very short response to website Giant Bomb: “Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009.”
