The ESA (Entertainment Software Association) has just come out with a press release about the state of the video game nation. They said that sales in 2008 were approximately $22 billion, with software sales alone accounting for just over half of that figure. It appears that even in this terrible economy there is still one industry that is definitely doing well. This is surprising news because even though the industry as a whole seemed to to much better than before, many companies are still laying people off.
They also went on to highlight that the top selling games account for over 15% of the total revenue, which is higher than previous years. Also it does appear as though family oriented games also accounted for half of the $11.7 billion that made up software sales. So all in all it appears as though the gaming industry is still booming.
