According to an article posted over at Gamasutra, an analyst from the NPD, Anita Frazier, has given us some details about the PC market overall. The information comes from comments made by the analyst at DICE ’09, an industry convention currently going on in Vegas.
The details that come out of this articles are as follows:
- 58 percent of the U.S. population aged 13 and over plays video games
- 27 percent of each entertainment dollar spent in 2008 [were on Video Games]
- PC game sales at retail have declined by over 50 percent in the last seven years
- Non-retail sales of $2.3 billion overall, and retail sales of $11.7 billion.
- The number of people gaming this year has increased 61 percent.
- The industry has gained an additional six million gamers over the last year.
- Online gaming has increased two percentage points from last year
These are some great, astounding figures that will be on some powerpoint presentations for many publishers at E3. As we can see, the industry is growing and evolving. Are you keeping up? I sure hope so because I think the Wii has a lot to do with the growth, but the 360 has increased the online community.
