The fans of Quake won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on Quake Live, as the official website has announced that registration for the Public Beta will begin this Tuesday. Quake Live is a free version of Quake 3:Gold that will run on web browsers. It will be ad-supported.
Quake Live is a first test to see if games can will be able to be downloaded and streamed through the internet, making id the first real testers. The beta will probably test stress the servers, as well as give id free advertisement for their experiment with the new game. It’s predicted that PC games will, in future generations, be similarly downloaded and streamed, so this may be a shot of what gaming will come to offer.
Quake 3 was released in 1999, with Quake 3 Arena being released in 2000. The title currently holds a 69 out of 100 at MetaCritic.
