If you were hoping to get your hands on some of Sony’s big name titles this year, then you will definitely be disappointed. According to Joystiq, Sony has said that God of War III and MAG are slated for fiscal year 2009, and not calendar year 2009 as previously speculated. This is a major letdown for a lot of fans who were expecting these heavy hitters out this year. Fiscal year does technically mean it could still be this year, however the forecast seems pretty dark. Though there was some good news in with the bad. Heavy Rain is still slated for August and inFamous is slated for “spring”.
Though I can’t say I was suprised by Sony’s announcement that they aren’t releasing these major console sellers this year, I have to say I am a bit worried. With the operating cost loss and the poor economy Sony is going to face a major uphill battle. Without a lot of games out for a console, especially big titles like God of War and MAG, Sony is going to have a tough sell with consumers. The consumer wants the most bang for their buck, and as has been seen, a lot of people are underwhelmed with the amount of games for the PS3 and the fact that they are losing exclusive after exclusive. With Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III being pushed to next year people are still waiting for the major Sony franchises that they wanted at launch. Hopefully people don’t lose hope with Sony though, however many are sure to be disappointed with this news.
