Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has built a juggernaut sized following, especially in the multiplayer space. Now, almost two years since its release, it has hit a massive milestone, only touched by a select few other games. That is, the 15 million player zone. This was revealed during an acceptance speech by Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward. The game took home 3 awards on the big night, but no matter what awards the title wins, they are winning the most important one of all, the financial one. Either way they are making a ton of money, along with Activision because this game has still not had a major price drop. This strict price point has stuck with gamers even after the games successor (Call of Duty: World at War, developed by Treyarch) has been released. Congratulations to all the fine folks at Infinity Ward and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this year.
By the way, that 15 million doesn’t even include the PC gamers. It only takes into account 11 million Xbox Live users and 4 million PSN users. Add the PC gamers into that number and you may have to pick up my jaw from the floor. This is what a quality game can bring you. Please Activision, don’t give this series the Guitar Hero treatment, it is so damn good the way it is right now. I am looking at you Mr. Exploitation, Bobby Kotick.
