Our favorite time of the month, no not that, get your minds out of the gutter, it is NPD time (February 2009). Overall, there is not anything hugely surprising on the consoles front, but the games are quite amazing. All I can say is, “why the hell do people keep snatching up Wii Fit, it isn’t even a god damn game.” I even put quotes around it so those who copy it don’t have to do much work. Also, Street Fighter IV sold well, even only being released for part of the month. Congrats to all and stay tuned for any rebuttals from the big three.
It is also promising to sell that every single console increased its sales. I know about the lull that is also known as the “post holiday season,” but each increase is very respectable. Killzone did well also, which is good for Sony, which should help them out in the future. The scariest part of the whole NPD monthly routine is seeing the same two DS games each month. Those are some profitable games. Mario Kart DS came out in 2005! I give up……………
On a side note, Halo Wars sold over 1 million copies. I feel bad for Ensemble Studios because they made a successful product, but I guess Microsoft didn’t think so. I guess it helped that the IP they were adapting is one of the most popular franchises on the planet.
