For a game that is centered on multiplayer, many were disappointed by Resident Evil 5′s lack of a versus mode to contrast the already awesome cooperative mode.  Considering how versus modes are standard fare, it seems odd that Capcom would totally avoid such a mode in the final version of the game.  However, in an attempt to make amends with disappointed gamers, Capcom is going to be delivering downloadable content which pits players against each other…for a price.

The new versus modes will cost $5 and are available for purchase through Xbox Live and Playstation Network.  Versus mode allows up to four players fight it out in two different game types.  Slayer’s Rule has players hunting down Majini’s in an attempt to score the most points, while Slayer’s Rule pits players against one another in a deathmatch type game.

Capcom was quick to defend the price of the two modes in according to computerandvideogames.com
, saying, “Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5.”

Capcom also included,”We have never included a Versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there’s also additional bandwidth costs associated with it.”
