Well it appears that the prophecy foretold by my local Gamestop guru has become true, sort of. Sony has halted production of it’s Playstation 3 console….for South Korea. The reasoning behind this is because of the waning value of the Korean Won and rise in the value of the Japanese Yen, which encourages Japanese citizens to “reverse import” expensive items like Sony’s game console. With current conversion rates, the PS3 goes for 448,000 Won (or 31,377.68 Japanese Yen) and sell in Japan themselves for 39,900 Yen, a savings equivalent of about $88 US. Sony’s solution: don’t give them that option. This is temporary of course, and will more than likely continue production once an easier solution is found.
