I would be surprised to hear that people who payed any attention to the entertainment market still doubted video games as a market presence. At this point it would be downright ludicrous to still believe them to be a niche consumer good. However, for those people who undoubtedly still believe this to be true there is some news that may knock them out of their media hibernation.
Resident Evil 5 has topped the UK’s entertainment charts. That’s right, not just video game sales charts, but the entire consumer entertainment market of the UK last week. The list of other major releases to be overshadowed by Resident Evil 5 include a new U2 album and all 5 of the major motion pictures in the box office. I highly doubt that it will remain this way into the next week as on the sales chart video games often lack the staying power of other forms of media.
That being said, the entire entertainment consumer market and Resident Evil 5 grosses the most money?
All I can say is awesome!
