Capcom’s most successful fighting franchise, unlike it’s hugely successful “zombie” killing franchise, is getting it’s new mode free of charge.  Street Fighter IV’s new Championship Mode pits players against eachother in tournaments, based on five levels of skill to even the playing field up a bit.  You are not able to see which character your opponent picks, just like in a real tournament.  Skill level is determined by your Grade Points, or GP, which is earned after each win.  Once you win whole tournaments, you receive Championship Points (CP), which Capcom compares to prize money.  If you’re playing againt someone in a higher bracket, theres a larger amount of CP for you to win.

PS3 players get the option to vote in real time on things they thing are “Funny”, “Awesome” or “Beautiful”, while the 360 players can only view inputs used on saved replays.

In an interview with Kotaku, Seth Killian says:

“The new tournament system is totally addictive. Winning takes you higher and higher, but even if you get knocked out in your first match, there’s always another tournament starting immediately, so you’re never out of the action. With replays, if you’re a junkie for great Street Fighter matches like I am, you basically just got the best cable channel in the world for free.”

The DLC comes out April 24th for the price of free.
