Will Wright is probably one of the most influential persons in the video game industry today. He has been a major part of the simulation part of video games, most notably Sim City, the Sims, and Spore. Wright has always been reaching towards the stars in an attempt to push the industry further and further ahead. Today it was announced that he would be stepping down from Maxis to go to work full time with his Stupid Fun Club. There he plans to work with other like minded individuals to form a think tank. Their plans are to come up with new IPs and ideas that will push the industry forward.

Up until now the Stupid Fun Club was a side project that Wright had on the side. However EA has offered to fund the project, and thus have first pick at any ideas that they come up with. If EA doesn’t want it, then it goes out to the public. With Will Wright at the helm, and many enthusiastic individuals working with him I have no doubt that they will be able to do many wonderous things. The future of the video game industry does look bright indeed.
