The reboot of the classic Splatterhouse series has gone through a very, very tough development cycle, especially in the last year or so. This trouble all started when the publisher, Namco-Bandai Games, pulled the game from the developers, BottleRocket. Now, Joystiq is reporting and confirmed that members of the BottleRocket team have been brought on to the team, in contract positions. Although they state that a “performance issue” was to blame for taking the development duties away from BottleRocket, it seems like a truly interesting move by the publisher. At least they salvaged some public relations stance back by bring the devs back, but still it was probably quite early in development.
I have not seem they work they have done, but it did look rough when it was on the cover of EGM, but still, who knows what BottleRocket could have pulled out of their asses during crunch. Also, as a side note, I am not sure how often this happens in the industry without full disclosure, but I can bet it happens much more than we could ever know. As least, the artistic vision can still see the light of day and not be cancelled outright. Do you think this game will be hurt or helped from this? At least being in the news gives the game some recognition, even though it is negative.
Will games like Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai on your resume, hopefully the team that is left can still salvage work and get a new deal with another publisher for a new title.
