When you think about iPhone or iPod Touch App Store games, do you think about ones that are geared toward the very young children out there right now. I know what you think, why is a hardcore gaming blog talking about iPhone games for preschoolers, it is because a fellow blogger/podcaster has made this title. Tomato Interactive’s first title is so damn good for a child under 4, it is insane! I game my iPod Touch to my fiance’s 3 year old sister and she could not put it down. She almost cried when I had to leave and take my iPod with me. The game has six mini games that involve all sorts of learning activities. The game includes counting, animal recognition and ABCs. I even got to talking with the 3 year old’s mother, who in turn asked me about gaming for her. I can’t believe that such a simple app could give young ones a great learning experience. At 2.99 price tag, this well designed game would be a welcome distraction/learning experience for any preschooler.
As an added bonus, you get an MP3, via email of the opening song, written by the programmer, Matt McCarthy. The song will be stuck in your head, just like me, for weeks. As a side note, this was a two man project, but it has the sound and art assets that could have been developed by a whole team. With a small price tag and a great, simple user interface you should definitely buy this game for your preschoolers, if you have them.
I also hear rumors that there are at least two more Tomato Interactive apps in development currently. Please, support these guys, because they deserve it. There are links to their site and apps below.
*This game is intended for preschoolers, so don’t expect an adult experience.
Here are some screenshots I took. Isn’t the art style awesome!
