MotionPlus Only Game Could Succeed

With games like Red Steel 2 and Wii Sport Resort coming down the Nintendo pipeline soon, we can start to discuss the relevance of Wii MotionPlus. Could this spike even more sales for the Wii? Or is it just going to segment their already massive market for upcoming title? No one really knows, but we do know that Nintendo has some big boys on board. Electronic Arts has shown their interest by including a Wii MotionPlus add-on in all of their upcoming sport games for the Wii and Ubisoft with Red Steel. As publishers begin to back the 50 million unit install base, there is no way that the Wii MotionPlus will fail. It just adds so much that we originally thought the Wii would bring. Just listen to that statement, “adds so much that we thought the Wii originally would bring.” He lies the true reason for most gaming pundits tenacious hatred for the little Wii Remote add-on.

With the cost of a remote, 40 bucks, a nunchuck, 20 bucks and now the Wii MotionPlus, 20 bucks, a full “usable” controller costs over 80 buck with tax. I am not totally sure, but without much research, this is one of the most expensive basic controllers in the modern era of gaming. So, 4 full remote cost more than the console itself, that is dumb. As the economic downturn becomes more prominent throughout the world, an 80 dollar controller becomes much less feasible to sell.

But, this is the company that built the video game industry to what it is today and I trust them to make massive sums of money. I can guarantee that Wii Sports Resort will sell a shit-ton and who knew that Wii-Play would sell so much. So, I can’t wait to get my hands on the thing, so I can really know whether or not it is worth the money. From what I have seen and heard, it does improve the experience and I can see how Red Steel 2 could benefit from the new mechanics. I own the first Red Steel title, which was a launch title for the Wii and I can tell you, it was an average shooter with a horrendous set of controls. The game was also very rough, probably because it was a launch title, but it still sold well because it was one of the only adult titles at launch. The game had an insane amount of hype surrounding it, so most were disappointed by it. Hopefully the second entry in the series will leave a better feeling in my gut when I am cutting dudes up with a samurai sword “accurately” and “realistically.” Yeah, you heard me, and who wouldn’t green light this title.

I also am wondering if Nintendo has to give out new Wii remote “jackets” aka Wiimote Condoms for each Wii MotionPlus because of the extension. No idea, but hopefully that is included in the costs, but it isn’t like they are hurting for cash and could spare some awesome stuff.

I will continue to stay on the fence until I play it and you should do the same. Please let us know what you think and stay tuned to AmpedGaming.com for a review soon.
