Top 5 Cities for Next Fallout Game

With all the recent talk about the next Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas, I thought I would put together a short list of great places to set a Fallout game. This is only a small tidbit of the possibilities for the next, Todd Howard lead, game. We all “know” they are working on the next Oblivion game, but you know that Obsidian or Bethesda will be working on another Fallout game after their games ship.

Here you go:

moscowMoscow – From the rich history of one of the largest and most oppressive nation in world, that is Russia for those who failed geography, to one o the most populous cities. I can just imagine seeing the Kremlin in shambles, and then it could be the base for your faction. Hopefully the new wasteland would be full of yummy vodka and would be the main form of currency. Does anyone else think that there would be a tie-in between the operation anchorage DLC, but instead of Chinese attackers, the Russian would be helping you. I don’t know if mutants would be filling up the red square, but we can dream. If Bethesda or Obsidian doesn’t want to offend the Russian government, they could go all Modern Warfare and make up a new name for Moscow, so no one gets prissy.

0-los-angeles_masterLos Angeles – The city of angels would be a great location for Bethesda to set their Fallout universe. Not only because a decrepit Hollywood sign would be awesome, but the expansiveness and varied nature of the Los Angeles area would keep the environments fresh for the player. But, the problem is that the L.A. area is already polluted to the point that is similar to the D.C. area from Fallout 3. Kidding…Jeez, chill out. Another issue the design team would have to overcome is the lack of great monuments that would be able to survive a nuclear holocaust. But, there are already a whole bunch of zombie like people that are more like splicers then mutants. Plus their are a bunch of game companies in the area.

rioRio de Janeiro – The second largest city in Brazil is a sleeper hit for the choice of Fallout 4. The only reason I can think of setting it here is that one of the best movies ever has a similar issue. That film is none other than Starship Troopers. Johnny Rico was pissed off during the whole film because the “bugs” destroyed his city. I know nothing about any of the monuments, except for the giant statue of Christ, which would be awesome to see in a Fallout game. Both you and I know that this would never happen, but it is even better to hope. With almost eight million people this city would be a great and surprising choice for the next Fallout game. Hmmmmmm….WWJD? Do you think he would be able to approve of such an apocolyptic game? Or is this a section left out of the sacred text.

londonLondon – The capital of the United Kingdom would give the next Fallout game a great setting due to its historical importance, age and populations. But, would the vault be able to hold enough people for the resistance? Being an island, the geographical difference from the previous games may be a help or a hindrance, depending on direction the developers would like to take. For example, the Tower of London is such a distinct and functional site for the game to be based because of the history that occurred on that very ground. Can you see it now? The other cool spot that Bethesda could use is the massive “The 02” dome, which is one of the largest dome structures in the world. Imagine battling you way through swarms of enemies through the stands. London would be a great choice by Todd Howard and his team, but with Bethesda Softworks being based in the UK, it would be a tough sell to the PEGI (Pan European Game Information, or the European ESRB).

romeRome – Ah yes, one of the most historically significant and recognizable cities in the world. Rome has been home to death, brutality, learning and religion. Four words that can describe thousands of years of history. The architecture is ancient and modern, depending on where in the city you are standing. From the Vatican to the coliseum, the city would be a perfect setting for Fallout 4. Mr. Howard, listen to us, do what you have to do, but think about it. Walking through thousands of years of demolished history could bring forth a desperation and desolation for more than a US audience. Rome is a universal city with recognizable sites that might require a few more level designers to replicate, but I think it would bring the characters closer to the humanity of their existence.

After reading the article, please comment with your own ideas. Personally, I don’t have time to write about all the great cities in the world, but maybe in the future I will add to this list. If you want to contact me anonymously, send an email to Ghathaway@ampedgaming.com.
