Summertime is coming, which means big name movies and also means some big name games to whet your appetite until the absolutely glut of holiday titles comes in. Here are the top five that I am personally looking forward to.
5. Bionic Commando: I remember the 8-Bit version on the C64 with great fondness and look forward to how Capcom will ressurect this series. More importantly, I’m curious to see the shenanigans that can be had in multiplayer.
4. Fight Night Round 4: I am a longtime fan of the series, and was saddened when the developers of FNR3 were disbanded by EA but, with their invigorated effort to churn out original IPs and quality games rather than generic sequels with a fresh lick of paint, I am keen to see if EA Canada can make a worthy successor to the last entry in the series.
3. Ghostbusters – The Game: After much delayed development and changing of hands over the years from Zootfly’s indie effort and Activision Blizzard’s unexplained axing of this title, I can say I hope that Atari’s latest effort is not only worth all of the waiting and hype and helps rebuild the industry stalwart as a serious publisher.
2. Batman – Arkham Asylum: We are long overdue a seriously good Batman game, and this title has looked promising as any could. Hopefully this, and the rumored TDK game, will put to rest the crappy Batman tie-ins that have plagued gamers since Batman Returns on the SNES.
1. Prototype: I could use several words to describe my glee and excitement everytime Radical Entertainment releases a new teaser video on me, and the majority of them would get me permanently removed from the ampedgaming staff of writers, but the pedigree involved in this developer and the interesting evolution of the Sandbox Superhero Genre along with Prototype’s completely out of control and superpowerful protaganist, Alex Mercer, to be potentially the biggest orgy of destruction and chaos ever in a videogame. I mean, think Crackdown meets Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, but with zombies and the ability to tear your enemies limb from limb or simply devour them just to begin with, and you have what I hope to be the game of the Summer.
Well, that’s my list. Let’s see if my crystal ball isn’t that fuzzy.
