I honestly had no idea whatsoever that they had so much in store for us.
Microsoft started with announcements on their newest games. Halo 3: ODST, Gears of War 2: All Fronts, Modern Warfare 2, as we expected but there were two major surprises in store for us Microsoft fans.
The first and lesser of the two was the Announcement of a new Metal Gear Solid game that would be coming out for the 360. I believe it’s called Metal Gear Solid: Rising and you play as Raiden. Needless to say this is a deep surprise, I mean yes Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance came out on the original Xbox but I would say Microsoft and Sony weren’t as bitter competitors then and exclusives being put on another platform wasn’t surprising because they were not jealously guarded secrets back then because cross platform wasn’t common. It appears to follow Raiden in the form he appeared in Metal Gear Solid 4 which is cool. If you ask me that means a linking game of what Raiden has done since the Big Shell incident of Metal Gear Solid 2 since the events at the end of MGS4 kinda leave a continuation out of the question. It isn’t Xbox exclusive which would have made it even more awesome, but for that matter its still a surprise in these days when console exclusives are so precious and few.
The largest reveal by far was when Microsoft confirmed a motion control device for the 360. They call it NATAL and it allows full body use, no Wiimotes here. It appears it is video recognition through a camera and from there you can control the full body of those new xbox experience avatars you made. This makes it pretty clear about why we made those avatars in the first place. I mean rumors of a 360 motion control have been around since the Wii launched so now we finally get some closure. Apparently kits for NATAL have already been shipped to many developers. Peter Molyneux came out and displayed his recent work with project NATAL where he had a little friend in what I can only describe as close to a science fiction AI. This virtual kid(can’t remember his name) was fully interactive, able to register emotions, pick up on colors, for Christ sake you can pass a note to him that he can read by holding it up to the camera! It’s apparently being showed to a select party behind closed doors for the rest of the week.
Trust Molyneux to come up with something as frightening as that….
