Dark Light
Legendary Starfy review
Review Score:

Who is this Starfy, you ask? He’s a super-happy, do-gooder star who battles evil by spinning. He’s also the Prince of Pufftop Palace and has a clam named Moe for his best friend. The story starts with a mysterious space bunny crash landing onto Starfy’s planet. Your goal is to help him regain his memory by collecting crystal shards. In return, he grants you the power to transform into other creatures, such as Monstar, (a red fire breathing dragon) or Roostar (a chicken with supersonic clucking power). Even though Starfy lives in the clouds, he’s best underwater, which is where you spend most of the game. You’ll encounter comedian squid, ninja cats, angry clouds and snowman-building penguin. Three evil henchman are in pursuit of Bunston, the space bunny, not to mention big boss underwater sea creatures who you’ll have to defeat. Starfy can turbo swim, glide and of course spin. As you progress these abilities will improve so you’ll be able to jump higher, or comet smash your way through walls.

Unless you’re age 10 or under, I don’t imagine anyone finding this game very challenging. That doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, it just means nothing is particularly difficult to kill or get through, except maybe the final boss. The levels have enough variety to keep it interesting. Some boards you’re hopping from bubble to bubble to get to the top; other times you have to find your way through a maze of water currents; or you might end up in a giant snowball or mining cart and have to jump over breaks in the ground. Explore enough and you’ll find treasure chests with outfits for Starfy, minigames or diary pages that delve deeper into the storyline. There is a 2 player co-op option, where a pink girl star named Starly can join you, but I didn’t get around to trying this.

Overall a fun, relaxing game that oozes cuteness. I really have no negative remarks. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because while it’s a solid game of it’s genre, there’s nothing new or unique about it; and for most of you, it’s probably way too easy.

Also, if anyone’s in NY this Sat. July 11th, between 1-3 pm the Nintendo store at Rockefeller Plaza is having a Party with Starfy event for fans. If I’m around I might go take photos…
