Potentially usurping all the t-shirts, toys, statues and behind-the-scenes bonus discs, Modern Warfare 2 creators Infinity War have decided to offer up a pair of freaking Night Vision Goggles along with the purchase of their $150 “Prestige Edition” for their latest (but no longer tethered to the series’ namesake) Call of Duty title.

Call me crazy, but this to me is the equivalent of finding a brand new pair of Nikes inside a box of $10 “premium” cereal.  A) the prize has only a loose connection to the product (let’s say Snap, Crackle or Pop wears Nikes), and B) the prize seems to  completely overvalue the product itself, even with the elevated price. A quick glace at a night vision goggle vendor shows the price of a decent pair of night vision goggles for no less than $270!

The special edition of the game also comes with an art book, a molded plastic head (for the goggles, and for punching, obviously) and a code to download and play the original Call of Duty over PSN/XBLA, which will be fun for the five minutes you’re curious to see what the series was like six years ago before they added all them fancy features and next-generific graphics.

This seems like too good a deal to pass up. Who wouldn’t want a nice pair of night vision goggles along with what is sure to be one of the most popular games to come out this fall? Next time the power goes out (or you stop paying the electric bill due to the purchase of so many video game special editions), you won’t have to reach for a candle or a flashlight like a chump ever again! Unless…wait a minute. Is this going to be another X-Ray specs debacle?!?
