In one of the smarter things I have heard from a Microsoft official in recent days, the Uk regional Xbox director Neil Thompson has expressed that he feels that parents still have not realized that the Xbox 360 is not a “toy”. He recently explained to the MCV that every member of the gaming industry should keep the idea of educating parents about their children’s videogames in the front of their mind. He specifically is speaking about educating parents to the fact that there are content filters on the Xbox 360 that allow parents to control what content is played on the 360. Afraid of your kids getting their hands on Mature games? Well then take the half the second to learn that you can set a password that keeps your children from being able to even play those games in your home.
That being said history has continually surprised me with parents ability to decide that the game industry should just not make mature games on the risk their children will get their hands on them. Apparently it may be too much to ask for for people to do their part rather than have someone else do it for them.
