In an interview with totalvideogames.com, Doug Lombardi revealed that Valve is working on a solution to get Left 4 Dead 2 to allow cross-play with Left 4 Dead 1. There were no real details to discuss just yet, but considering one of the main things I was worried about with the two games was a split community, this is great news.
Another thing he discussed was that they were building Left 4 Dead 2 with the mods from the first game in mind.
“With the MOD stuff, if you’re making stuff for Left 4 Dead it will work in Left 4 Dead 2 with very minor amounts of work to bring it over. So we feel we’ve made good steps on that side and now we’re looking at how we manage that for folks who buy the first game and sequel.”
I haven’t yet checked out any mods for L4D1, but I think I’ll be seeking them out now that this information is out there.
