It’s time for the crazy bet/marketing gimmick of the day boys and girls! Raven Developer Maveen Heir has posted on his twitter feed that if his studio’s latest release, Wolfenstein somehow manages to outsell perennial August video game champion Madden then he will personally reimburse every single person who purchased a copy of the game.
Kind of an insane marketing ploy, but actually pretty smart if you think about it. Unless everyone on the internet somehow gets their act together, there’s no way he’ll ever have to pay out. The offer however may convince a few fence riders to take the gamble, hoping their video game is their lucky lottery ticket for a free game. A lottery ticket that, you know, you pay the price of the prize for, hoping to make that money back down the line.
According to 1UP, if Wolfenstein did manage to beat Madden ’10, it would need to sell at least 2 million units, which would cost him about $120 million dollars, or more realistically, $100,000 just for those Twitter followers aware of the deal. I’m gonna go ahead and guess he won’t ever have to do that math himself, but it’s kind of funny to imagine his gimmick, and quite frankly, his dream as an employee at Raven also bringing about his financial ruin.
