Closer to the ruthless Wolverine from the comic books, Logan fights his way through the Alkali Lake facility, parts of the African jungle and other underground military bases in the desert. It’s mostly a hack-and-slash game with a bit of Tomb Raider puzzle solving thrown in. As repetitive as the game is, it’s still enjoyable because the fight moves are simple to pull off and immensely satisfying. Who needs guns or health packs when you have adamantium claws that can deflect missiles and a body that heals itself over time? Rage orbs, which are acquired by killing people or destroying items in your environment allow you do special attacks, such as beserker rage, cyclone or drilling moves. As Logan levels up, you can add points to skills such as claw damage and health, or increase the duration or strength of your special moves. Also check off the beaten path for mutagens, which are extra modifiers that can increase experience, reduce overall damage taken, or make him do more damage if he’s almost dead. You can also collect dog tags off of eerily glowing dead soldiers for extra experience. Another ability you possess is feral sense which exposes hidden traps and invisible targets, highlight spikes to impale your enemies on, or just to point you in the right direction. Lunge is one of your basic moves, and will be your best friend, not only for moving between targets quickly but for getting across chasms or taking out helicopters.

You’ll encounter William Stryker, Mystique, Sabertooth, Agent Zero, the Blob and Gambit and lots of familiar faces from the movie. Expect to fight a lot of big bulky lava monsters and Wendigos which can all be taken down in the exact same way each time. There are also droids, ninjas, flaming machete and spear-wielding natives, shifters (capable of splitting themselves) and soldiers with invisibility suits. Towards the end, you’ll want to rip your hair out, because instead of being original and coming up with more bosses, they just team up different bad guys and make you fight all of them at one time.
The Tomb Raider aspects I’d mentioned earlier include dragging around statues to hold down levers, jumping across timed platforms and avoiding spike traps in the floor and walls. Not to mention the statues which come to life to beat on you or all the available pottery lying around for you to smash.
Lots of glitches in the game: Certain moves get stuck in a loop, camera won’t stop spinning, wolverine falls through the level or freezes to the point where you need to restart. Also there are points in the game where you require an enemy on the other side of a gap in order to lunge across, but if you defeat them and fall off and need to cross again, it’s impossible.

Wolverine loves his cell phone. Ok, so it’s not a cell, it’s an earpiece or something similar, but he’ll be chatting with his hand up to his ear while there are bad guys waiting in the distance or while his claws are still bloody from having sliced someone’s head off. Another funny event which you’ll see often is that almost every cut scene ends with Logan being blown up, only to safely land a few miles away with just a few holes in his body. Oh, and in case you miss the yellow or tan spandex, sprinkled throughout the game are classic Wolverine costumes.
Overall an enjoyable game. I considered giving it 4 stars, but it was a bit too repetitive and glitchy.
