At E3 we got the big news that two of the biggest social networking sites would be integrated into our 360 service. Announcing this set another milestone for Microsoft on how they wanted the 360 to be more than just a gaming platform and how they wanted it to be very social for their consumers. With this announcement, many fans of the services were excited, but were left with only Fall as a release window we had to wait in suspense. After waiting four months, we now have a release date for the United Kingdom. According to the UK xbox.com site, we will be able to Tweet and update to our followers on Nov. 17.
But what about America? When will we be able to talk to the interwebs from our consoles? All we know for now is that there should be a beta for us mid October based on what Microsoft told MTV Multiplayer, which would put the beta phase around a month. That seems like a good time frame to get all the kinks out, but the ball is still in Microsoft’s court. Until then, we will have to wait and see when they let those select few watch that update progress bar, knowing they are getting it before the rest of the world.
I personally think that Facebook will flow a little better than Twitter because of the ability to post pictures from your games and eventuly videos, or so I have heard. Being able to see photos of my friends and family on a big screen and hopefully in a slideshow will be a very nice feature. As for Twitter, being able to update from a console is a very nice feature, while being able to show people when you got achievements is more than likely a selling point for the Gathers of Gamerscore. Hopefully with the achievement updates we will have the ability to turn them off so we won’t annoy followers unless we really want to. All in all, this update should bring gamers closer together with thier friends, family, and the rest of the gaming world. I’m looking foward to seeing everyone on live and the real question stands.
Will this new integration help drive sales for Microsoft this holiday season and push it above its competitors?
