Now I’m not the type to post fan films. I don’t really pay much attention to them outside of when I’m bored out of my mind at 2 a.m when trying to remember if I drank lagers or stouts, but recently when googling information on a possible Metal gear film I came across this.

The hour long length does shock me as well finding out that it was only part one of a three part series, but I was struck by the quality and care Hive Division put into their work. With out getting to deep into it, Hive division is a group of Italian students and young filmmakers that decided to put a lot of time and effort into this project and it really shows.
The film attempts to tell an all new Metal Gear tale with it’s own story and character arcs. Vaguely set in the time frame between acts 1 and 4 of Metal Gear Solid 2, Hive Division tries to fill in the blanks that led Solid Snake from the tanker incident to the big shell. So far it does have many of the signature elements of a Metal Gear story like codec calls, massive bases to infiltrate, a shady corporation with metal gears and the all important over the top villains. Which made me smile.
When it comes to the production of the film I was happily surprised to see that it was on par with something you could find on the SyFy channel. It reminded me of episodes of Stargate SG-1 that I had seen. Now I don’t know if you’re into that, but for a fan made film with no budget reaching that kind of quality is like finding the holy grail.
The voices are dubbed over, but only to the films benefit because who ever voice acted for Snake did a hell of a job matching David Hayter. That particular piece of voice acting really helps you believe that this could be part of the MGS universe.
Honestly I could go on and on about this for hours, but if you have read this far in I think you should slide down and check the film out yourself. You might be pleasantly surprised considering we don’t know if or when a Metal Gear Movie will be made. This so far is a good substitute.
