It seems that rumors of another console getting the ability to stream Netflix was true. The Playstation blog recently posted that next month, PS3 owners will join their Xbox 360 counterparts in enjoying the ability to instantly stream thousands of movies and television shows through their consoles. Unlike with the 360, where only Xbox Live gold members are able to take advantage of the service, all PS3 owners subscribed to Netflix will be able to watch instantly. It seems that, at first, a free Blu-Ray disc will be made available to all Netflix members to access the service. Considering the post says the word “initially” when explaining this, one can only assume that there will be a PS3 update later on that will make it a part of the XMB, much like it is on the 360.
Since I always have to turn my TV’s volume up to go over the jet engine fan noises that come from my 360, being able to watch Californication on the quieter system is something I really look forward to.
