I think the headline might be saying to much. Now before I really begin I just want to say that I love DLC. Before Xbox Live I felt left out in the cold because its was solely a PC gaming thing. Yes. You might say, I should have just sucked it up and played games on a PC, but nay. I was actually too lazy to learn the keyboard layouts.
With that said, it’s great to have all the possibilities of adding extra content. With the Playstation Store, Xbox Live, and Wii Shop Channel we can download till our hearts content. Or until you realize that you just spent sixty dollars on two map packs, a game or two,a video or three, one too many backgrounds and a couple new shirts and toys for your avatar. And this is my point. How much is too much for DLC?
Looking at it this way. If you have COD: World at War like I do, then we have a great game. Good for us. Now that isn’t enough we need more. After awhile you learn the nooks and crannies of a multiplayer map and the matches begin to get a little stale. Bang! New DLC. A fresh set of three maps and an extra for more zombie killing. Also an extra ten bucks. To make this short the same thing happens two more times. Now we’ve got a great game and more than enough maps. Then i realized this 65$ game is now a 95$ game and a soon a copy will come out with all the maps attached for around sixty somethingish. Ah, the benefits of capitalism, but what I want to know is, did we really need to pay thirty dollars extra for this? We got maps and some weapons. Hell the game already cost sixty something bucks why are we nearly paying half the price of the original game for MAPS? For me it makes sense when I’m paying for something like “Liberty City Stories” because it adds to the playtime in the game and takes the story further. More missions you know the deal.
Then there are the miscellaneous items like backgrounds, videos and avatar apparel. Why are we paying five bucks for a digital lightsaber that I can’t touch nor make grilled cheeses with. I’ll tell you why. Because its cool, but way too expensive. Then I can rent a video for three bucks in HD for twenty four hours. Okay I guess that can be reasonable as I’ve already stated that I’m lazy and thus impatient so sometimes I just cant wait for that copy of Fanboys to arrive in the mail.
All I’m saying is that with the profits that game publishers make I think they can side step on the prices of their DLC. But that’s just me. What do you think?

I’m right there with ya. Except I suppose I’m cheaper, since I refuse to download extra content unless it’s free or I’m convinced my friends will also be playing whatever new map pack has just been released. I’ll never pay for extra avatar gear.
Even mmorpgs like WoW, which have a monthly fee are trying to sell you $10 downloadable vanity pets these days.
