A Call For Suggestions: Amped Tourney Addition

So the last Tournament was a resounding success! Our Champion rose above the rest to claim his prize in Street Fighter 4 and now that the smoke has cleared the staff here at Amped is thinking about the next tournament already. However, a game cannot be decided upon. Should we do Street Fighter 4 again, should we do a tournament for the PS3 this time? Should we do a Halo 3 Tournament since the Multiplayer for that game has recently been revitalized with the release of ODST?

Well the logical explanation here is to ask those of you who would be participating in this tournament. What game do you want? What system? What rules? I encourage you to leave as many comments as you feel necessary, if you see an idea leave a comment on how you support it. We can’t commit to something that won’t follow through because of lack of players so please be involved here! This tournament will most likely be decided by you guys if there is enough conversation on this post so get to it!

The Champion Has Risen!

So the smoke of conflict has cleared and Zartman007 has been revealed triumphantly. What can I say that he cannot say better himself…

So without further ado here is a short bio and description of the Tournament by the Champion himself”

I’m a gamer from the east coast who’s been playing Street Fighter ever since the SNES version of Street Fighter 2 came out. So great was my anticipation to play SF4 that I took a long road trip to the Chinatown Fair arcade just to put my name on a waiting list to play their SF4 machine.

Ever since it came out for Xbox 360, I’ve entered several online tournaments. The most recent one is the Amped Gaming SF4 tournament.

My first opponent was AR Rune Kai who played a tough Cammy who punished every stray Blanka ball effectively. The second opponent was Nocturnal TBDM who had a formidable Balrog who also was able to punish any stray moves of mine. My semifinals opponent was Cigloman, who hails all the way from Australia. He was gracious enough to find a mutually acceptable time to play. This was indeed a difficult match as Cigloman played a well executed Balrog. In the finals, my opponent was Doctor Rouse. His Sakura was a combo beast! Several times he easily took off nearly 35% of my life with an awesome EX combo. The last match was an intense and very close one.

All in all, I would like to thank all my opponents, Ichi, Stan Spaeth, and the rest of the AmpedGaming.com staff for running an enjoyable, respectful, and challenging online Street Fighter 4 tournament. Here’s to having more in the future!

Finals!! Street Fighter 4 Tournament

Yes! It is finally here! We’ve all been waiting for around the past two months for it to get to this point, but it is finally here! The very first Amped Tourney has reached its final round! The Tournament ladder has taken on a new look to it with the two mightiest fighters at the top of a chain of fallen heroes. This tournament has been nothing but a surprise to many of us here at Amped Gaming, personally I’m still surprised how the two finalists aren’t both Ryu players (bad joke I know), but seriously it has been my utmost pleasure druing my tenure writing for this site to see this little brainchild of mine run so smoothly.

Before we get a look at our two heroes I would just like to thank some people. First and foremost we all have to thank Stan Spaeth the site owner here for making all of this possible (including your prize gentlemen), secondly our editor Jonathan Huie and the other staff here at Amped for getting the word known and all of their support so far, and finally, you guys! Everyone has participated with the utmost sportsmanship and enthusiasm that I couldn’t possibly be happier with this tournament!

Now just a closer look at our two champions. We’ll start with Doctor Rouse. I personally have to say that when I saw that he had registered to play with Sakura that I was doubtful he would make it past even the first round, I mean I may be an arrogant Bison player but she just cannot take too many hits! However, I was thoroughly shut up in this regard when his first triumph came over Paustinj who was playing as M.Bison. Following that Doctor Rouse triumphed over HEN ROCK67 a great Akuma player, and Gunit Soljier who played an excellent Abel. His greatest challenge is to come when he faces zartman007 in the finals.

Speaking of zartman007, as the only Blanca player in the tournament I had my hopes for him. He overcame AR Rune Kai in the first round, instantly becoming a personal favourite, because, no offense AR but Cammy is the most annoying character in the game (my opinion). Following this he triumphed over NocturnalTBDM who played as Balrog. Then it was on to cigloman who also played a skilled Balrog. Can he overcome Doctor Rouse and his schoolgirl character after defeating two violent pugilists? We’ll find out soon!

Semi-Finals! Street Fighter 4 Tournament!

Ok guys, my bad on the last few days, move in and training has been a little hectic and I promise it won’t happen again. However, we’re almost finished because it’s down to the semi-finals! More or less everyone has been very prompt with their match resultsor at least been in contact with me if they had trouble with setting up matches. The process has been very smoothe so I can assure you we’ll be running one again as soon as possible after the end of this tournament!

Here are the people still in the tournament for those of you who haven’t been following it as obsessively as some of us have:

Just a note to you guys, but this tournament has been better than I had ever imagined it to run, and following the players and who played as who I can frankly tell you that I’m surprised on the line up right now. Only two characters who rank relatively high on the character stat sheets are in this tournament. Frankly, I’m surprised there isn’t a Ryu or Ken character in the semi’s (not that they are bad characters, but everyone and their mother plays as them online). Good going guys!

Round 2!: Street Fighter 4 Tournament

So after an extended dealing it is finally time for Round 2 of the first Amped Tourney! We have had from what I heard some very heated and close matches, and only one time did a match have to be resolved by Random Draw. Please do not make me do it again guys.

Got chops at Madden? GameStop wants you to prove it!

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, GameStop will award 5000 dollars to one lucky football gaming fan if they can prove themselves in the “Battle of the Gridiron” tournament to be held at GameStop’s 2900+ stores. The tournament will take place on Saturday, August 22nd. Anyone over the age of 13 can enter the contest, but those under 18 must get a signature from parents/guardians on their registration form.

Winners of the first round on the 22nd are invited to the second round on the 29th. In addition, the two top players from each store are invited to the Regional Finals which will take place on September 12. Then, the top 16 players will be lucky enough to share an all-expenses (meaning roundtrip airfare, hotel fees, $200 spending money and tickets to the Cardinals vs. Panthers game) paid trip to Phoenix, AZ where they will square off in championship event on November 1st.

Round 1! Street Fighter 4 Tournament!

All 16 slots are now officially filled by the bravest World Warriors, and that can mean only one thing…

We can finally get this tournament started! Which is wonderful on so many levels….

However, the official start of the tournament is on Tuesday, August 4th so I do not want to be hearing from you guys on the outcome of any matches just yet. I expect all 8 matches to be done by next Tuesday, August 11th. However, there will be a 2 day grace period once the next round begins to finish any matches or random draw will decide who makes it to the next round. All rounds are going to have the same one week time limit although I am hoping that in the later rounds it won’t take so long.

I figured that I would put the page up so that you guys can see who you are going to be up against and to look at how this tournament will work out depending on who wins. While I do not want to see any posts about match outcomes until Tuesday, feel free to use this page to talk tactics, get in touch with your opponent, and just in general talk about the tournament. I’ll be watching the comments so if anyone has any questions they can put them in a comment and I’ll respond in kind. Also, even if you are not participating in the tournament feel free to comment in any way about the tourney(rooting your favourite character or participant on, ect ect). Just keep everything civil guys!

Street Fighter 4 Tournament: Lordy Lordy, We’re Almost There!

So obviously as all of you who have entered this tournament and/or following it know, registration ends this coming Tuesday! Needless to say that the entire staff here at Amped Gaming is excited since this will mark the kick off of the first Amped Tournament! So far 15 brave World Warriors have entered the tournament and await their chance to prove their skills and power!

While this is wonderful, it does mean that we are only going to accept one more World Warrior into the ranks of the competitors… That means the next person to leave a comment after “A Slime Appears” will be the last person accepted into the tournament. While we can run the tournament without that last person, we would have to give someone a buy in to the next round, however, I severely doubt this will happen. I want to let all of the competitors know that I am currently working on the tournament ladder and it will be completed and released pending the registration of our last opponent!

Good luck to all of you World Warriors from us here at Amped Gaming, and remember, be the last one to register for the tournament at the original page for the Street Fighter 4 Tournament!

How This Tournament is Going to Go Down

So I know some of you by now are perfectly ready to beat me over the head with something heavy and metallic from my repeated posts about our totally awesome upcoming Street Fighter 4 tournament on our fine site here. However, I realized while it has been discussed on comments how this grand ol’ tourney will be run, it has not been officially published in a post on the site and since the days till the tournament begins are winding down I thought never was there a better time!

So I am basically running this tournament more or less by myself when it comes to setting up the ladder, drawing the random opponents who will face each other in the matches, however, I have received a lot of greatly appreciated help from other staff members in getting the word known. Special thanks to the site owner Stan Spaeth for making the prize possible and our editor Jon Huie for setting up this cool new section of the site for tournament news. On that note I would like to announce that we will have an additional section of the website that will commemorate those brave few who will place first in the Amped Tournaments!

As for how this tournament will be run, while building the tournament ladder random draw will decide who will be opponents in the first round. The tournament will not progress until a specified date when we will automatically move on to the next round. I will set this date for the sake of keeping the tournament moving. However, when that date comes to pass (it will probably be around the area of two weeks per round) there will be a grace period where people who have not yet had their match have a few days to post the winner while others get on with the tournament or they will be disqualified and one member of that match will receive a buy in to the next round as determined by random draw.

On the note of matches, you guys will be entirely responsible of setting them up and having them by yourselves. We can’t administer that since there is no physical location of this tournament. We will treat all posted answers as official unless the opponent disputes the outcome in which case we will provide a grace period in which to have the match redone or one of you will move on by random draw. Not that this will happen of course since I know you guys will all be of the utmost sportsman like in behavior, but we still have to have a contingency policy. The rules for the match itself are quite simple, you must use the character you signed up for the tournament with and the match itself will consist of a standard 3 round match, winner moves on. It is important to note that you guys can have as many practice rounds as possible.

A new post will be put up for each new round of the tournament, with an image of the tournament ladder, I will keep track of the progress by asking that the results of each match be posted as a comment on the page of that round. I will update the image of the tournament ladder every time a new result is posted, in this way you’ll be able to keep up to date with the results of the tournament as they happen. When the winner of this tournament is decided, he will receive an email from either me or John Huie(our Editor in Chief) with the code for your 1600 Microsoft Points and asking what info you would like put up about yourself on the Page of Champions (note: name is still being decided, hah).

Keep it fun guys and when you post results it would be cool if you could be a little descriptive about the match and your opponents play style so the staff can have some fun with it as well.
