Unlike the usual blood and gore horror games, this will focus more on psychological fear factors. Based on the urban legend of the “Page of Black” website, rumor has it that after visiting it, you die in a coma of unknown causes. Your Wii remote will operate as a mobile handset and flashlight in the game. Expect creepy calls and…..lots of darkness! Described as a “A clever mix of exploration and puzzle-solving.” I dunno, but this sounds like a bad movie with some interaction thrown in, but hopefully I’m wrong.

The next Dead Space game is a “rail” shooter that is exclusive to the Wii. It is not what I thought would be the next step for a great, impressive title for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but who am I to tell EA what sells. The Nintendo Wii has had a massive amount of rail shooting games, some of which were quite good, but I think EA is gambling with this one. Will a hype violent game sell on the Wii, up until now, not so much, see Madworld and HOTD: Overkill. But, under the new Visceral Games label, this game will be coming out on September 29, 2009 in the US to a hungry hardcore Wii audience.

Along with this press release, there was a great trailer that I have also posted. So far, the game looks really good and the precision dismemberment in a rail shooter, seems like a great idea. Can’t wait to see more and stay tuned for more info as we get it.

EA Set to Reenter the Depths of Space With Dead Space Extraction

The Panic Before the Terror Starts Hitting Store Shelves on September 29th

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and its Visceral Games™ studio announced today that Dead SpaceTM Extraction, will be available in stores on September 29, 2009 in North America and October 2, 2009 in Europe exclusively for the Wii™. Dead Space Extraction delivers the highly-polished, action-horror experience the Dead Space franchise is known for while upping the ante for technical excellence on the Wii with some of the best visuals ever showcased on the platform.

“Our team is really excited to bring the intensity of the Dead Space universe to an entire new audience,” said Executive Producer, Steve Papoutsis. “We are going to deliver the same high quality, cinematic experience we delivered in the original Dead Space, while also adding co-op, new enemies, weapons and taking advantage of all of the unique features the Wii has to offer.”

Developed at EA’s award-winning Visceral Games studio, Dead Space Extraction tells the story of a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space. The game introduces Lexine, an important new heroine, to the Dead Space universe. Players will play as the crew who falls victim to a mysterious contagion aboard the ship, with it quickly becoming clear that protecting Lexine will be their only hope for survival.

For more information about Dead Space franchise, please visit www.deadspacegame.com and get the latest from the development team at www.twitter.com/isaacclarke. This game has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI.

Hugh Jackman recently told Yahoo in an interview that he had been able to slip a few lines of the dialogue from the game into the movies script. For Hugh it must have felt like one of the most natural things in the world to do since they were essentially following the same plot, however, for someone who has thorough experience with videogames influencing movies I have to be somewhat of a skeptic.

I just can’t help it, I mean I love videogames and whenever a movie comes out I think this may just be the one that breaks the cycle, and so far I have been thoroughly disappointed. I may just be overreacting though, I mean the game influencing a movie that the game itself is based off of may actually be the key.

…..

Wait, what?

Since summer is coming very soon I figured it would be a good time to take a look at the games that are coming up that will be perfect to distraction from getting work done.

Bionic Commando: Slated for 5/19 this game looks to have a great combination of combat as well as great swinging action. Capcom has been working on this game for a while now so hopefully this 10th anniversary game can live up to its hype.

Punch-Out: Slated for 5/19 as well, not much needs to be said about this cartoonish boxing game that is coming back from a long hiatus.

UFC 2009 Undisputed: Another 5/19 release that looks to pack the punch that the actual competition has. This looks to be as beautiful and just as hard-hitting as the sport itself.

Damnation: This shooter type game is slated for 5/26. This is a steampunk game that envisions our lives without electricity where steam rules. Check out what might have happened if the American Civil War didn’t end.

inFAMOUS: To be released 5/26. This game sees you playing the protagonist that has power over electricity in a town that was destroyed by….well…you. Lots of parkour type action in this game reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed and many different ways to use electricity in whatever way you wish.

Looking at these few games May looks like it is really going to be a great month. Everyone should have at least one game to look forward to. The only thing I can say is, my wallet will be hurting.

Virtua Tennis 2009 is virtuoso sports fun!

Sega’s latest Virtua Tennis 2009 product is a sports and recreation delight. To all of us who wished they could play tennis with the pros or even on an amateur level, we get a taste of that in this game.

Vurtua Tennis 2009 provides a complete immersion into the tennis world by offering progressive and detailed access into training and competition. You are allowed to build your skills by attending a tennis academy, choosing from a list of well known coaches and selecting which skills you want to focus on. The pro shop is open for business and allows you to select equipment to meet your needs and to support your specific style of play.

Once prepared, the player gets to hone tennis skills by competing in the amateur ranks against players that will bring out those championship skill sets required to play with today’s top tennis stars. When you are ready for the big time you can go face to face with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Venus Williams and Maria Scherapova among others.

There are also about a dozen imaginative tennis games available that pit you against the likes of hungry crocodiles and an oversized pool table designed to bring out your pocket billiards skills while using a tennis ball and racket to send your balls into the pockets.

The tennis stadiums and the 3D crowds provide the intensity of a championship match and deliver the thrills to get your competitive juices flowing. Very enjoyable and loads of fun for everyone!

Over at Eurogamer.net, someone was privileged enough to play a build of the Ghostbusters game due out in June. The script and story have been crafted by Dan Akroyd himself and the cutscenes and banter are apparently amusing to see. The game is making a strong attempt at being as much a “playable movie” as possible, especially since the story serves as a 3rd installment in the movie series and takes place 2 years after the last movie. According to the article, the Xbox360 and PS3 versions of the game contain a lot of graphical detail and the characters’ body movements acurrately fit the individual personalities. The Stay Puft marshmallow man even makes an appearance and the description and gameplay from that stage does get avid Ghostbuster fans something to anticipate.

The article also describes the control scheme and claims it has a satisfying feel of a fishing game…let’s not compare Ghostbusters to Bass Masters (Ghostbusters 2 reference!!). The Wii version (made by Redfly Studios as oppsed to Terminal Reality) has a more cartoonish look and utilizes the wiimote’s motion-sensing abilities for things like throwing out your trap and controlling your proton beam.

This game has the potential to rise above the usually crappy movie tie-in attempts, which are usually just extensions of the film company’s marketing department. With Akroyd and the other actors’ voices and character likeness fully incorporated into the game, you could really feel like a member of the Ghostbusters team. Here’s hoping this game makes you want to get slimed and not just “feel so funky” after playing.

House Of The Dead: Overkill is going to be released on the Wii, February 13th 2009 by Headstrong Games, the game looks to be like another House Of The Dead hit, if you enjoy killing zombies & shooting at things, then House Of The Dead is your kind of game!

House Of The Dead has built a successful zombie-killing craze, previous House Of The Dead games in the series have had boring dialogue and action, but with House Of The Dead: Overkill being released soon, Headstrong games is taking the shooter series in a different direction and to a new gaming level.

You, as you may of done before, will take on the role of Agent G, but you will also be joined by a new partner, named Agent Washington, the great thing about this game is, you can play it on your own and have the game be your partner, or you can get a friend to be your partner and work as a team to complete the game!

In House Of The Dead: Overkill, its based in a zombie invested hospital, you will have to go on the premises of the hospital (Car park, entrance, the building, the wards etc) and basically just kill the Zombies, now you may thing this sounds quite-boring, but with different bosses, levels and different-zombies, it really does keep you entertained.

The reload rates seems to the about the same speed as all the other House Of The Dead games, although a simple wrist-action to move the aim-cursor off the screen will allow you to reload, which is useful sometimes, but I noticed when you didn’t mean to reload you still reload, which can get annoying but it’s nice not have to worry about moving a lot just to reload.

A new feature to the game is the “combo meter”, it’s still unclear how it increases, based on head shots or hits, every time you get your combo meter to full / five, you are awarded a bar, this bonus continues to stack up throughout the game/level and you are awarded extra-points at the end of the level. As in all House of Dead games, at the end of the level, you are awarded a rating based on your skill during the level, judged on your shot accuracy, how many times you were attacked etc.

House Of The Dead: Overkill has stayed the original, entertaining zombie shooter, but with some great new graphics, realistic killing and brilliant new levels. I am awaiting to grab my shotgun and start shooting zombies heads off.

The Godfather II, is obviously the second game by EA. If you have seen the film “Godfather II”, then try to think what kind of genre of game you would place it into. I believe it is a combustion of strategy, role-play and third-person shooter. You take on the role of a Mafia, don Dominic Corleone, you roam the streets killing people, you’ll watch as your empire starts to take form and you will need to manage your resources to make sure that your empire carries on growing.

To be totally honest, the game doesn’t have the same plot as the film, although the game is still based on the film. In the game, you are creating your own story as you go alone, it’s a different story for each player as it depends on what you do within the game and how you go about things.

The story starts in Havana which is in Cuba, on the night before the revolution on 1958, just as a mafia-meeting begins to go the wrong way, violence corrupts the streets and you are suddenly in charge for guiding members of the Corleone family mafia to a nearby airport, so you are able to escape unharmed.

As the family arrives home in New York, you begin to establish your own pat of the family, by recruiting a member into your ranks. Every potential associate has different unique skills which you must take into account. It is vital that you build up your crew with a balance of skilled killers and skilled medics. You don’t want a whole crew of killers because sooner or later, they will all die because you have nobody in your crew whom can help them.

As you go in into the beginning of the game, you will need to buildup your manpower and obviously the amount of money you have. There are many violence related moves which you can perform in the game, which I quite like to see, you are able to shoot somebody, but you can also head-butt them, slap them, throw them across the room and more! This gives a very realistic game play.

When doing this, you need to remember to be careful, you can rough them up a bit, in order to gain some vital information which you may need in the game, but there are two points, the point where they breakdown and give you the information and the point where they decide to fight back and die instead of you gaining the information, which you need, you don’t want to go too over the top with the violence.
